art to me.

I am Busy working away getting my little ideas down on paper, my brain is working ten fold on drawing, painting and writing. I just wish my brain was a little bit like this when I was at Uni. I have had a lot of people since yesterday ask me a few questions about my drawing and creative process, and there has been a few negative slightly back handed compliment style comments, can I just take the moment to put a little thing straight, please don’t be jealous of a skill that I may posses I have been drawing and painting since I was about 2, so that is 22 years of honing my skills, thousands of hours of drawing, illustrating, painting and writing ideas down. Yes drawing now does come easy to me, but I have had to work on it. So please don’t feel jealous, if you want to draw or learn to draw remember any skill worth having you have to work for. Passion and a love for being creative isn’t simple, sometimes I feel like I am crap at drawing and I am useless, I think we all have those moments when we are doing something, so if you feel like you can’t draw of create you can anyone can.

I hope my work inspires you to grab a pencil and paper, or even to go to an art gallery and enjoy art, thats my goal when I share my work its not to show off, I was never ever taught how to draw, I was nurtured and shown the importance of being creative for myself, not to brag, not to show off but to create pieces that are good for your soul. Drawing to me is like meditating, its my switch off and chill time. Don’t get me wrong there are skills I wish I was good at, like singing and playing music, which can I just say the boyfriend is amazing at, but I appreciate that we are all different imagine that if all of us could draw art would be less appreciated it would be less thought of as special or less important.

Thank you for your kind words about my weekend away and the photos, I am so glad you enjoyed them, its funny when I see people googling who my boyfriend is, haha very strange, slightly funny and a little odd…I can promise you he is real.

Great post Ella. Drawing and art, just like any other skill, take time and practice – lot's of it. I don't know about you but I've "missed out" on many social gatherings and such spending my time working at my desk. But it never felt like I was REALLY missing out on anything because I was choosing to do what I loved the most.

We all get that feeling from time to time of thinking we are not good enough – we are all only human – but working through it is, I think, what get's us to the other side, and looking back at all the progress we have made is a great source of inspiration.
    Keep up the great work!

Couldn't agree more. I was always always drawing growing up, because I felt so happy with it- no matter how it turned out! Yet I feel like I've lost this completely, and I know it is all because of GCSE Art. Man do secondary school art teachers know how to screw you over! But I've just followed a shedload more art blogs, have got out all the kit and am trying to fall in love with it all over again because I do really miss actually liking it hahah. Great post E x

    (p.s. Is this Frida Kahlo?)

Hi Ella. I've been reading your blog for quite a while and I always love your posts on fashion and drawing. Your drawings are so good, I absolutely love your tattoed men and when you start selling them again am due to buy one. I'm so sorry that people were less than complimentary about your art, petty jealously I'm afraid. I for one was fascinated to see each step (at first I thought you'd drawn the model covered in green paint!). Then to see you layer the colours for the skin, stunning. Keep up the good work and enjoying your creativity. I love making things, it soothes my soul!
