Thrifty ♥ Thursday cameo and lace brooch

So here we are its Thursday again, so it can only mean thrifty thursday, i haven’t done one for 2 weeks so i apologies for my lack of thrifty makes. But this one is an old classic, that you can pretty much do in about 15 minutes, its perfect if you have a lot of broken brooches.

What you will need:

1. A round or oval thrifted/ broken brooch mine was thrifted the other day for 20p (with a flat surface on the back)
2. Super glue (i use the one from warhammer thin glue best glue ever!)
3. Thrifted antique lace (or any material or your fancy)
4. Craft flat brooch back (gold colour)
5. Scissors
6. Pliers, for the back of your brooch if you need to take something off.
7. beading or sequins to hang down the side of the brooch my thrifted from broken necklaces. (this is optional.)

Now we are ready to get creative. 

Now the first thing we need to do is get the craft flat backed pin and glue it to the back of the brooch making sure it is dust free and clean so that the glue has a chance to stick to the surface now we are ready to get the lace measured and cut.

We then have to measure the lace to make sure we can get it all the way round the brooch and have enough to gather it. Wrap it around the brooch leaving a little excess, then cut it with scissors. 

This is the tricky but fun part, cover the back of your brooch in glue, ready to stick the lace down, take your lace and gather it up, as if you were making a rosette, just pinch a little bit of the lace and lay it on the next piece of lace. Once you have gathered stick the lace to the back of the brooch and press down firmly. Hold for about a minute, try not to get any glue on your skin (i stuck my finger to the brooch…rookie mistake!)

Now you need to take your sting of beads, sequins or broken necklace, mine is from a bunch of broken necklaces my granma gave me, take your glue and put a little dot on the side of the brooch not on the lace, but on the metal to makesure it is securely attached. Now press the beads on the glue and put more on top of the beads making sure there is enough so its fixed properly hold with the end of the pliers pressed onto the beads, just so you dont get your finger stuck to the brooch. (Beading is totally optional)

Now leave it to dry for about 30 minutes – 1 hour, and that it you have a wonderful hand-made, hand-thrifted creation. Perfect for wearing on scarfs, jackets and tops.
