take me to the sea

I know it is christmas Eve and you are probably expecting fairy lights and chocolates but I wanted to share with you a few snaps from mine and dads seaside adventure. I have always been inspired by the sea so me and dad took a little trip down to leigh on sea in essex a few weeks ago, so I could snap a few photos and we could hang out together and drink tea.

I’m currently working on a sketchbook full of ideas for my next series of illustrations, based on all things nautical, it’s always thanks to my dad that I feel inspired. We both share a massive love for photography and anything to do with the sea. You should see my dads collection of mini wooden boats. I think through out the day I drank like 15 cups of tea i am a sucker for little quaint cafes and hot tea.

The tide was out so me and dad walked amongst the boats and snapped so many pictures the light was so beautiful on the mud flats so still and perfect. It was freezing mind you, but a bright cold morning perfect for photo taking. It is always my favourite thing to do when i am at the sea side is to collect some shells and bring them home for my wall collection, its been a slight obsession since I was a kid. There were plenty to choose from.

I hope you are all having a fab christmas eve!

These snaps are beautiful, Ella. I love the seaside as does my mum, and these pictures just reminded me of our holidays when I was younger, so thank you for bringing that memory back to me. There's nothing like some quiet time with the smell of sea air all fresh and crisp!
I hope you and your family have a lovely christmas, I can't wait to see your new illustrations!

Awww you went to old Leigh? That's just by where I live. It's so lovely down there in the summer with the cobbled streets and olde pubs. xxxxx

I love the seaside too, sometimes even more so when it's out of season – wintery beach walks are the best. You are so lucky to have such a lovely relationship with your dad!
