Give me space with Fritha Moonbeatle Tigerlilly Quinn

I would like to start this post by saying I am sooo happy and pleased to share with you one of my all time favourite bloggers, and today i didn’t even edit Fritha’s beautiful photos, because the colour was so vivid and amazing I wanted to share this with you all. Recently I got the chance to meet the lovely Fritha herself, she greeted me with the warmest smile, was so lovely and chilled when I spoke to her ( I was trying to contain my excitement so when Fritha wanted to be feature as part of my give me space blog post I was rather looking forward to peeking inside her arty space. I absoulty love her amazing illustrations and the beautiful creatures she creates, especially her Paperchase illustrations and as it is nearly Valentines day you should see the pieces she created for them…so damn cute!

Fritha is an illustrator, who lives in Bristol with the cutest baby boy wilf and her other half  Tom . So I will stop rambling and hand  you over to Fritha, 

My name is Fritha Moonbeatle Tigerlilly Quinn (were my parents hippies you say?…)

Would you be able to talk to me a little bit about your space? and what you have shared and photographed 

 I have a small space to work, I once had a studio, I then had a son, that space is less inspiring now unless your muse is stickle brick. Now my space is half the dinning room table, its small, its often piled high with materials on one end but its mine

why does it inspire you? 

I have a large canvas of my family above it, the people who mean the most to me, underneath it is a pin board of notes, cards, photographs that mean something to me. If I pause, take a sip of tea (essential to being inspired) and just stare at these two things. Perfect for striking inspiration. 

if it doesn’t inspire you how can you make it more inspiring?

umm tidying? Its a mess quite often, did I mention it was only half a table? Easy to get cluttered (although I also have the table draws) its its messy my head is messy and I simple can not to anything. I feel its important to start off in a clean space.

whats your favourite part of your space?

That I can look out on the rest of the room, the art work at the far end, our cats, the book shelf brimming with collections and shelf after shelf of children’s books, my sons toys (and even my son if I’m trying to sneak in some work as he plays) my favourite spot in the house

Is your spaces always evolving?

In that the mess is evolving past the half way mark.. 😉

do you think your personality shines through in your space?

When I was in university my room would be plastered with art work, photographs, paint charts, magazines and art books. Always messy and always colourful, I thought this space showed my personality best. Now as an ‘grown up’ and mother I’ve had to reign that in but I think in a very small and ordered way my pin board keep this alive

It would be fab if you could talk to me a little bit about your work you create? is having your own space important to your creative process?

I am an Illustrator but I also make Children’s wear and homewear, I often have a small time frame in which to create. Its important to have a small space that is mine in which to do this. Plus I need one place Wilf cannot reach and he is in everything!

I can see from your photos you have a lot adorning your walls, could you tell us a little more?

Lots and lots of art work! Photographs and cardboard deer heads 

How do you utilise your small space?

In theory organisation and tidiness is the key (I would like to say I always practise this, I try!) 

Do you use this space to photograph your products/art?

No in fact I am currently working on this little problem…at the moment its wherever I can fit in some white space, a tripod and time to take a few shots

Could you talk us through your work and what you create…

Initially whilst studying for a Graphic Design/Illustration degree I wanted to be a children’s book illustrator. The year after graduating I struggled to get any work in this field. I few years later I found myself doing more and more editorial work and that has mainly been where I have succeeded.  I would like however to release my own range of illustrated children’s wear. I also produce custom wedding illustrations/invites. 

Please describe yourself in 5 words.

I find these things so hard! I would hope to be described as: Kind, Helpful, Creative, Funny and Optimistic 🙂
