Music…and me.

Now this is something I don’t often share on my blog but i love music, i really do, since i bought my Iphone and Ipod I became a little bit detached from the music I loved, I have itunes on both of them, but I miss saving for that cd that I loved seeing on top of the pops, or recording your favourite artist in the charts. I remembered spending a whole Saturday recording the entire collection of Elvis Presley, onto a tape via the oldest radio ever, I do miss those days.

My dad would play all kinds of music, when I was growing up. My grandfather was a big band singer during the 30’s and 40’s with the nickname “bing” due to his beautiful voice ( Bing Crosby the legendary singer) but my Grandfather was a humble man and never ever persuade his amazing talent. so music had always influenced my dad, even though I think he wasn’t entirely aware of it himself. He owns two tapes of my late Grandfather singing, and those are prized possessions that never see the light of day.
We weren’t the richest family in the world so music and art to me were pretty much free, so they became a free entertainment for all us kid, mum would be cooking in the kitchen whilst capital gold played on a beaten radio; that my mum and dad got for their wedding, it only ever played music from the 60s’, 70’s and 80’s so you can imagine the music I grew up on.

As a teenager you couldn’t part me from my music, I use to write music and play the guitar…Not that well but you can’t knock me for trying. I use to attend at least three gigs a week and yes I did indeed go through that emo phase (didn’t we all?) As soon as I turned 18 I got my love for music tattooed to my skin with a few music notes with my little blue bird, its a simple design but it sums up how i felt at the time, I find no matter what mood I am in, I can always find a tune to either wallow in or boost my mood.

Do you have some songs that once you listen to them, instantly take you back to that moment you first heard the song, a party, an emotion, or when you watched that first live gig? I was listening to Laura Marling on sunday, and it instantly took me back to a moment when I was love sick, sometimes song can’t be revisited due to the emotions they conjure in you. Damien Rice’s music always takes me back to sitting in my best friends room at Uni, hanging out, drawing and talking about the future, its great when music makes you feel.

I recently inherited my dads country music collection, all on vinyl, my favourite way to play music, I remember prancing around the living room to a mix of elton John, the Beatles and Garth Brooks, my parents would play on a massive old school music record player, in the front room and we would dance for ages well it would quickly turn into play fighting, my childhood was highly influenced by the ninja mutant hero turtles ( thats the 80’s title for them not the ninja turtles) creating ninja dance moves were perfected by me and my older brother with style. Oh those were the coolest days.

What does music mean to you? Music is a wonderful thing, I am looking forward desperately to sitting in front of a stage in the summer and listening to some beautiful tunes its been too long. Enjoy the old photos of me.

Nice to see Rumours in there, always a classic! Ironically listening to that album right now! Think I want to be stevie nicks!

I take my ipod everywhere with me, those days when the battery runs out while im on my travels are sad days indeed. I saw Sigur Ros 2 days ago, it was just magical. I often listen to them before I go to bed and listening to them live gave me such a lovely feeling, gave me some right old shivers it did!

This is possibly one of my favourite ever posts of yours as I completely agree with what you are saying. Its amazing how a song can instantly take you back to a moment in time and completely immerse you in the feelings you had at that time. Nothing else can do that to me in anywhere near as powerful a way. Even just seeing pictures of muddy fields gives me serious pangs, wishing I was stood in the sun (chance would be a fine thing…) listening to my favourite bands right now.

I always felt like an outsider music wise as I was never into one genre, I just love listening to music which stirs my soul. My Husband and I have a huge CD collection but it's very random, but each collection reminds me of certain life events, Come As You Are-our song; Nina Simone-My Daughter; AC/DC-my son etc.. Music can drop you to your lowest your make your mind sore. It's a great thing to be a music lover.
    Thanks Amanda.

i used to listen to music 24/7, always had my earphones. but for a while i kind of stopped, cause now i'm all day inside the house and it's not the same. i loved to walk and listen to music and mix the visual with the song. maybe i'll turn to that someday.

BING CROSBY. I love him so much. The most natural, beautiful singing voice of anyone, ever.
I love music of all kinds, but especially musicals! I have a singing in the rain tattoo on my arm. The music in them is so fun and people take it so seriously sometimes. Silly music is just as good as the stuff you're "supposed" to like. xx

I freaking love music. I find it so evocative. I can easily lose myself in music and don't go to as many gigs as I used to, which is sad.
