Audrey Hepburn Portrait of an Icon : National Portrait Gallery

I had the privilege of being invited along to see the Audrey Hepburn Portrait of an Icon  photographic exhibition before
the National Gallery opened their doors to the public on Friday. I took
the Mother who has been a massive fan along with me for many years, I actually based my gcse textile design work on Audrey, so you can imagine how super excited I was.

The curators of the exhibition Helen Trompeteler and Terrance
Pepper gave us a wonderful introduction and talk, all about setting up
the exhibition and how they selected the photos that would be exhibited.
They faced the challenge of sharing photos that people may not have
seen before, going to America and having to choose the photos from over
5,000 images of Audrey, I imagine that was a pretty tough job (maybe not
the trip part) I loved how the rooms went through her life, starting
with early photos to her dancing career in London, I really loved the
mix of cinematic coloured film images to the black and white photos by
all the top photographers at the time.

The space felt perfect for the exhibition, I thought that the choice of imagery and the amount was perfect and nicely laid out. There was a great mix of Audrey the film star, the Humanitarian and the person. I adore the photo of Audrey by Cecil Beeton with her dog in the front basket of her bike, the colours and composition were perfect.

I loved the wall of magazine covers, ranging from her first to later images, Massive fan of a good aesthetically pleasing wall space. I would really recommend popping along early as the tickets I think have mainly sold out, when we left the cues were rather long already and it was only 10 am. If you are a lover of cute animals aswell its for you. You can see a little tour here with the curator Helen Trompeteler.

I couldn’t help myself in the gift shop, I picked up the large breakfast at Tiffany film poster for an amazing fiver along with a few other beautiful Audrey inspired goodies.

HOPE YOU’VE  HAD A FAB WEEKEND

I'm so jealous, I'm such a huge fan! I have over a dozen books about her so it's not often that I come across a photo that I've not seen before. There are a couple of beautiful ones there that are new to me. And gift shop? Double jealous! I might have to make the effort to make the trip up after all.
