I’ve managed to keep this commission under wraps for weeks which is a feat in itself as I was really excited to get my teeth into this creating something fun and powerful for them. I came up with a few roughs with a similar sort of theme based around women, friendship and being a strong woman, The initial ideas have always daunted me when it comes to a potential commission.
I drew up about four designs and then from that I developed two to then paint as my work real comes to life when the colour and pattern are added to the piece. The illustrations were constricted to the header space to working in those dimensions really helped me to focus on the details of the clothes and faces trying to give each a slight personality.
Being able to do a mock up in full colour also gave me the opportunity to see what colours worked with each other and then the chance to change it for the final piece. I really enjoyed the patterns in the head scarfs and wanted to add a little more into the next piece.
I submitted two final illustration which Twitter both loved so snapped up both to be used alternately through April and you can see it over at @TwitterUk on Twitter which is so exciting. It has been such a great experience.
Wow, what an exciting commission! And the end result is so beautiful. I actually love that we got to see the work in progress because it allows us to see some of the details cut off on the final header and the changes that you’ve made (I love the addition of the second headpiece). Amazing work Ella! 🙂
